The Internal Province of Ghana (IpG) of the Anglican Church has donated an amount of Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 60,000.00) to the COVID -19 Trust Fund. The donation was in response to the call made earlier on by the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his 4th Address to the nation, that COVID -19 Trust Fund had been established for donors and organisations to donate to support the government in the fight against COVID-19.
Due to the lockdown and restrictions on movements, the donation was made on behalf of the Archbishop of the Province, the Most Rev’d. Prof. Daniel Yinka Sarfo and all the Bishops, by the Rt. Rev’d. Dr Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Bishop of Accra.
Bishop Daniel Torto went with a delegation including the Dean of the Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Trinity, the Very Rev’d. Dr. Geoarge K. Neequaye, Venerable Dr. Joseph L. Lamptey, Archdeacon of Accra East and Venerable John Antonio Tello Nelson, Archdeacon of Accra West.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the President was the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Frema Opare and Dr. Nsia Asare, Presidential Advisor on health and COVID -19. The Chief of Staff expressed her profound appreciation and gratitude to the Anglican Church and Bishop Torto for the kind gesture. She added that despite the lockdown and restrictions that has affected the church, they have managed to support the Trust Fund. She requested Bishop Torto to pray for the nation to combat the coronavirus.
Bishop Torto also called on other denominations and organisations to come and support the government. Prior to this donation, Bishop Daniel Torto with a section of the Diocesan Officials and the Senior Chaplain of Ghana Prisons Service, Supt. Selwyn Okine made donations to the officers and inmates at Cantoments.
